About Andevalo Dam

Andévalo is a rockfill dam on the Chanza river in the province of Huelva, Andalusia, near the Portuguese border. Completed in 2004, it holds 634 million cubic metres and is one of Spain's most recent major reservoir constructions. The dam serves primarily for water supply to the mining and industrial areas of the Andévalo comarca and for environmental flow maintenance in the cross-border Guadiana basin. The reservoir's location near the Portuguese frontier means its operation is coordinated under the Albufeira Convention.
