About Negratin Dam

Negratín is an arch dam on the Guadiana Menor river in the province of Granada, Andalusia. Completed in 1984, it holds 571 million cubic metres and is the largest reservoir in the eastern Guadalquivir basin. The dam serves irrigation, water supply, and flood control purposes. The reservoir sits in an arid, striking landscape of badlands and eroded terrain, and has become known for water sports and tourism. The Guadiana Menor drains the semi-arid highlands of eastern Andalusia before joining the Guadalquivir.
